The 2014 New York Musical Theatre Festival kicked off July 7 – and in the second week of performances, we've got the scoop on two more productions which are so popualr they're adding performances.

A mix of cutting-edge, funny and touching new musicals are premiering all over New York as part of the 2014 New York Musical Theatre Festival honorarily chaired by Tony Award-winning director Jack O'Brien.

For the first time in the history of NYMF, a developmental reading in the festival, For Tonight will add a concert performance. Additionally, WikiMusical, a crowd hit, will extend for a second time

FOR TONIGHT announces NYMF cast: Adam Theodore Barry, Heather Botts, Patrick Dunn, and More

The NYMF developmental reading of For Tonight, which will run for three performances, July 9 & 12, at The Studio Theatre, has announced full casting. The new original musical was created by Shenelle Williams, Spencer Williams, and Whitney Rhodes. Joe Barros directs. 

For Tonight is based on the life of the writer's great-great-great-grandfather in the 1830s in Northern Wales. The musical features an indie-rock inspired score and focuses on themes of "love, family, and acceptance."

The plot follows Thomas, Haydon, and Nettie, three children forced to fend for themselves when their parents die of a mysterious illness. Haydon soon heads off to Liverpool with his guitar to find what the world has to offer. 

The cast features Adam Theodore Barry, Hannah Berggren, Sean Buhr, Heather Botts, Colin Critchley, Patrick Dunn, Hannah Elless, Brandon Kalm, Kate Moore, Steely Nash, C.J. Pawlikowski, and Krista Pioppi.

Hannah Elless and More Set for NYMF Readings of New Musical FOR TONIGHT, 7/9 & 7/12

For Tonight, a new original musical, by creators Shenelle Williams, Spencer Williams and Whitney Rhodes is headed to New York City to participate in The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) as a developmental reading. For Tonight's story is inspired by the life of the writer's great-great-great-grandfather in the 1830's in Northern Wales/Liverpool. With its indie-rock inspired score and a completely original book, this story focuses on the universal themes of love, family and acceptance. The show will have three performances at The Studio Theatre at Theatre Row in July 2014.

FOR TONIGHT music to premiere at BROADWAY SESSIONS, 6/23/13

BROADWAY SESSIONS is described as an evening of musical performances, games and open mic featuring a new Broadway guest each week. The show is created and hosted by Ben Cameron (Bway Wicked, Aida and Footloose) and features musical director Joshua Stephen Kartes on piano. 

This Thursday, June 26th, Broadway Sessions will offer it's 3rd annual New York Musical Theater Festival sneak peek. Several of the festival's featured musicals will be on hand to present songs from their shows.

Musical's scheduled to present numbers include Rescue Rue, Zombie Strippers, Coming of Age, Fable, Propoganda, Save the Robots, Valueville, Mother Jones and the Childrens Crusade, The Travels, Academia Nuts, WikiMusical, For Tonight, Somewhere with You, Deployed, Searching for Romeo, The Snow Queen and Clinton (list subject to change).

Readings Announced for 2014 New York Musical Theatre Festival

The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) has announced additional productions and readings for its 2014 Festival, which will run July 7-27.

"We were fortunate to have a bumper crop of very high quality shows this year," said NYMF executive director and producer Dan Markley in a statement. "Whether it's your first time at the Festival or you've been joining us for years, you're in for a great musical theatre experience in July."
